Celebrating the International Youth Day, the youth commission, Yuvamitra, of the diocese of Shimoga held two days seminar of youth leaders at Sannidhi, the Diocesan Pastoral Centre on 12 and 13 August, 2023. Forty nine youth leaders from different parish ICYM units accompanied by youth animators were present. Fr Pius D’Souza, youth director of the diocese, fresh from the World Youth Day, inaugurated the sessions. In his address he stressed on the need of active involvement of the unit leaders in executing the year plan of the youth commission effectively.
He presented the two day programme and outlined the discussion on activities. He expressed his gratitude to all youth leaders for taking initiative and active part to serve in the parishes and committing themselves to lead the ICYM (Indian Catholic Youth Movement) units.
In the course of the meeting the discussion was focused on the celebration of the year of youth in the diocese. The ICYM unit presidents presented their report and action plan for the year. This was followed by excellent interaction and sharing session on the best practices of the units. Bishop Francis Serrao S.J. addressed the youth focussing on the theme social analysis and the present young generation. He presented the challenges the youth have in the present challenging world. The ICYM group anticipated the celebration of birthday of Bishop Francis Serrao S.J. who is the Chairman of youth commission.
The two day programme contained the celebration of Eucharist, group discussions and planning of activities. The diocesan executive members along with ICYM President Miss Supriya V and YCS/YSM President Master Melwin D’ Cunha and Lady animators Sr Helen Moras SCB and Sr Tresa Lidya BS planned the programme.
