On Sunday, February 11, 2024 on the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes and on the occasion of World Health Day, the Shimoga Diocesan unit of prison ministry along with Nirmala Hospital Bhadravathi and Shimoga Diocese Health Commission, organized a Health Camp at the Central Prison Shimoga for both male and female inmates. Dr. Sr. Lovelyn, Dr. Jithu, Sr. Judy, the Coordinator for the Health Commission, Sr. Nirmala, Sr. Daisy, Sr. Theresa Mascarenhas, the Karnataka State PMI coordinator, Sr. Helen Moras SCB, the Shimoga Diocesan PMI coordinator, together with four staff and 25 final year BSc nursing students from the Nirmala Hospital College of Nursing spent the full day at the Prison, checking, caring and providing medicines.
The Camp commenced at 10:30 AM, with a short prayer and explain the purpose of the visit. The camp was inaugurated in the presence of Mr. Shivananda Shivapuri, Assistant Superintendent, Mrs. Sushma B, Jailor, and Mrs. Shrishail, jailor, along with the staff of the Central Prison Shimoga, who provided continual and enthusastic support throughout the day. The Health Camp was extended to the Central Prison for women, where Mrs. Shantha, Assistant Jailor, and her staff facilitated the proceedings. A total of 160 male inmates and 40 female inmates benefited from the camp, receiving necessary medications and guidance for further follow-up. The camp concluded at 4:30 PM, marking a day of meaningful service to those in need.
The Prison Ministry unit of the Shimoga Diocese extends heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Nirmala Hospital for their generosity in providing free medications and personnel. Sr Helen Moras in her vote of thanks specified and expressed gratitude to all those doctors, staff, nursing students and particularly the Prison Administration and prayed the Almighty to grant the blessings of God upon all. She expressed sincere thanks to Dr. Anitha, Superintendent of Shimoga Central Prison for men, and Mrs. Hemavthi, Superintendent of Shimoga Central Prison for women, for their invaluable assistance, which ensured the success of the camp. The Prison Administration expressed its gratitude for the wonderful service provided to the inmates of central Prison.
