Shivamogga, June 8, 2025: The Diocesan Service of Communion (DSC), in collaboration with the Youth Commission, Legion of Mary, and St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) of the Diocese of Shimoga, hosted a Pentecost vigil on June 7th, from 3:30 pm to 9:30 pm, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Shivamogga.
The vigil was led by Fr. Franklin D'Souza, DSC, Spiritual Director, and Fr. Nishanth D'Costa, Assistant Parish Priest, of St. Anthony's Church, Shanthi Nagar (Ragigudda), Shivamogga. Monsignor Very Rev. Fr. Stany D'Souza, Vicar General of the Diocese of Shimoga and Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Shivamogga, and Fr. Jostro, MSFS, Assistant Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Cathedral, were also in attendance.
Vigil began at 3:30 p.m. with an introduction by Fr. Franklin D'Souza. From 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Fr. Nishanth D'Costa and Fr. Franklin D'Souza led the adoration. At 5:30 p.m., Fr. Franklin D'Souza celebrated Holy Eucharist. He preached a homily on Pentecost, saying that the Holy Spirit puts order in our lives, unites us, and makes us witnesses of the Lord Jesus. He addressed the catechism children, saying that catechism brings order to the Catholic faith. Prayer, faith, sacraments, the Word of God, and the commandments put order in our Christian lives. The Holy Spirit strengthens us. Pentecost is the day the disciples were strengthened to proclaim and witness the message of Jesus boldly.
Following the 7:00 p.m., Mass, Adoration continued until 9:00 p.m., including intercessory rosary, Scripture reading, and Divine Mercy. A five-decade rosary, preceded by Scripture readings for each decade, was dedicated to the four deaneries, deans, parish priests, various commission directors, social and pastoral missions with developmental works, institutions, religious houses, and the mission of this deanery, encompassing all religious individuals within the deanery for brotherhood, peace, and prosperity.
At 9 p.m., Fr Franklin D'Souza led prayers of healing, deliverance, and anointing for everyone present. The Pentecost vigil concluded with the benediction at 9:30 p.m.
