Women and Girl Child Day: The Vianney Zone of the Shimoga Diocese came together on Sunday 19th of November 2023 at St. Joseph's Church Sagar, to organise and celebrate the Women and Girl Child Day. Nearly 250 parishioners participated in this programme. The Women’s Cell prepared a meaningful Eucharistic liturgy with Mgr Felix Noronha as the main celebrant.
As he greeted the congregation Mgr Felix Noronha explained the meaning of the celebration and the role women and girl-child play in the family, Church and in the Society. In his homily he gave a meaningful reflection on the preciousness of a woman in our society and the multiple roles she plays today. He hailed the opportunity given by our diocese and the initiative taken by our Bishop to reflect on women and girl child, while reciting the prayer for them daily. Reflecting on the readings of the liturgy, he spoke of the talents and responsibility given by God to us, which must be properly utilised by all.
The stage programme that followed was meaningfully arranged. Sr. Elize Lourdh SCB, Sr Judy, Sr Sunitha Priya, and Rev. Fr. Vishal Pinto along with Ms Mary D' Souza were the Resource persons of the day. In a very simple way they explained how women today have to be active and participate in the family and society building task. The organisers conducted nice games and competitions for children and adult alike. Mgr Felix Noronha distributed the prizes to winners. After vote of thanks, lunch was served to all.
