The Sacred Heart Cathedral in Shimoga witnessed a momentous and grace-filled occasion with the priestly ordination of Dn. Nishanth Anthony D’Costa, who was ordained to the sacred priesthood by Most Rev. Dr. Francis Serrao, S.J., the Bishop of Shimoga.
The solemn Eucharistic celebration began at 10:00am, with a large gathering of clergy, religious, and laity, including family members, friends, and well-wishers of the ordinand. The church was beautifully decorated, reflecting the joy and sanctity of the occasion.
During the homily, Bishop Francis Serrao highlighted the sacred responsibility of the priesthood, calling the new priest to be a man of prayer, service, and compassion. He emphasized the call to shepherd the people of God with humility and love, drawing inspiration from Christ the Good Shepherd.
The ordination rite was marked by the traditional laying on of hands and the prayer of consecration, invoking the Holy Spirit upon Dn. Nishanth. The newly ordained Fr. Nishanth was then vested with the priestly stole and chasuble, and his hands were anointed with sacred chrism, symbolizing his consecration to serve the Lord and His people.
The faithful joined in prayers of thanksgiving and joy as Fr. Nishanth offered his first blessings as a priest. The ceremony concluded with a felicitation program in the parish hall, where various dignitaries, priests, and family members congratulated and offered their good wishes to the newly ordained priest.
We thank God for the gift of Fr. Nishanth Anthony D’Costa to the Diocese of Shimoga and pray that he may be a faithful, zealous, and holy priest, serving God’s people with dedication and love.
