Report on the Requiem Mass for the Soul of Pope Francis

A solemn Requiem Mass was offered for the repose of the soul of His Holiness Pope Francis on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Shivamogga. The Mass was presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Francis Serrao SJ, Bishop of the Diocese of Shimoga.

The faithful gathered in significant numbers to pay their final respects and offer prayers for the departed Holy Father. The service was attended by a large assembly of priests, religious sisters and brothers, and lay faithful from across the diocese and neighboring regions. Their presence bore witness to the deep respect and affection Pope Francis inspired among people of all walks of life.

During the homily, Bishop Francis Serrao SJ reflected on the life and legacy of Pope Francis, highlighting his unwavering commitment to mercy, humility, social justice, and care for the poor and marginalized. He urged the faithful to carry forward the values the Pope championed and to continue praying for the repose of his soul.

The liturgy was marked by reverence and solemnity, with special intercessory prayers offered for the Universal Church, especially during this time of transition. Choirs from the Cathedral Parish enriched the celebration with heartfelt hymns that echoed the spirit of hope and resurrection.

Following the Mass, many gathered to share memories and offer personal tributes to Pope Francis, recalling his tireless efforts to bring about reform, unity, and a more compassionate Church.

The Diocese of Shimoga remains united in prayer with the global Catholic community during this time of mourning and gratitude for the life of Pope Francis.
