The Diocese of Shimoga had dedicated this year and its prayers and stressed the importance of the Woman and the Girl Child, conducting several programmes in every deanery and every parish. The Carmel deanery on its part organised the concluding function at the New Town Parish, Bhadravathi on Sunday, 3 December 2023.  Priests, Religious Sisters and a large number of lay persons from various Women’s Cell groups participated in this memorable event. Sr Benedicta was the Master of the Ceremonies.

The programme commenced with a prayer dance presented by the New Town Bhadravathi Parish Members. Rev. Fr Stany D’Souza, Fr Lancy D'Souza, Sr Shobhana and Sr Marie Evelyn, Sr Elize Lurdh and Mrs Mary D'Souza did the lighting of lamp. Sr Elize Lurdh SCB, the Director of the Women’s Cell introduced the programme and explained briefly the yearlong celebrations of the event. Mrs Rosy welcomed the gathering and appreciated the meticulous organisation of the event in New Town Bhadravathi. Fr Stany D’Souza and Fr Lancy D’Souza highlighted the virtues and qualities of women and of their contribution to the church.

Fr Stany D’Souza mentioned that how at the Synod Conference in Rome the Holy Father has stressed the role of women in building the church.  This was followed by the felicitation programme conducted by Mrs Mary D’Souza. Women and girls who excelled in education, sports, social activities and social service and persons involved in family service were honoured.  The best daughter-in-la prize was also given. This was followed by the cultural progamme. After the vote of thanks lunch was served to all. Nearly 200 people participated in the function.
