Bible Seminar Report: Shimoga Diocese, 24-11-2024
A one-day Bible seminar, organized by the Commission for Ecumenism in the Shimoga Diocese, took place on November 24, 2024. The event was designed for all priests and pastors from the Shimoga District and was held at the pastoral center, "Sannidhi," of Shimoga Diocese.
The seminar commenced at 9:30 am with a brief inaugural function. Most Rev. Francis Serrao S.J, the Bishop of Shimoga, inaugurated the seminar by placing a flower garland on the Holy Bible. The event was graced by the presence of Rev. Fr. Felix Noronha, Vicar General of the Diocese, Rev. Fr. Jerome D Souza S.J (the day's resource person), and Rev. Pastor PD Yesudas, the president of the Shimoga District Pastors Fellowship Association.
During the inaugural function, Bishop Francis Serrao introduced the resource person, Rev. Fr. Jerome D Souza S.J. He highlighted Fr. Jerome's expertise in scripture, related subjects, and languages.
Following the inauguration, Fr. Jerome D Souza S.J assumed the role of the resource person and delved into various technical aspects of the Bible. He began by elucidating the meaning and definition of the Bible, subsequently providing a comprehensive historical context of the Old Testament. In the afternoon session, Fr. Jerome explored rudimentary aspects of the New Testament, placing emphasis on the diverse translations of the Bible and the formative stages of the New Testament. The sessions were characterized by their interactivity, fostering an enriching learning environment.
The seminar concluded at 4 pm, at which point Rev. Fr. Jerome D Souza S.J was felicitated and thanked for his valuable contributions. Rev. Pastor G. Kumar, the Secretary for the Shimoga District Pastors Fellowship Association, expressed gratitude and delivered the vote of thanks, officially bringing the event to a close.
