The Shimoga Diocese has set aside the year 2024 as the Year of the Youth in the Diocese. In the annals of the Youth in Shimoga, December 25, 2023 is a special day for the humanity as the Diocese inaugurated the Year of the Youth at the end of the Christmas Midnight Mass. This indeed is an added opportunity for the young people to see the face their Saviour born for us and he becomes the face of youth as we deliberately celebrate this great day. Shimoga diocese finds this as a valid reason to rejoice because the year 2024 is declared officially by our Bishop Francis Serrao SJ, as the year dedicated for the Youth of the diocese and therefore its special day for the young people of the diocese.
Most Rev. Dr Francis Serrao SJ, Bishop of Shimoga, during the solemn Christmas vigil Mass declared the Year of the Youth 2024 open. He briefly explained how important this year is for us and how each of us priests, Religious and lay people should support and contribute to build this year deliberately. This is only a beginning of the great challenges placed before us with the direct working and support of the youth. Thereafter in a short inaugural function Bishop Francis Serrao unveiled the Year of the Youth logo and the theme song which composed by Fr Santhosh Vincent Almeida was also inaugurated. Fr Pius D’Souza the youth director of the diocese of Shimoga explained the meaning of the Logo to the congregation. Logo was designed by Mr Ashish D’Souza and explained positively by Jesvita D’Souza. A gentle reminder for all of us that the Inaugural function with the youth of the diocese is scheduled on 29 and 30 December 2023 at St Charles auditorium, New Town, Bhadravathi.
