SHIMOGA October 2012: Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo inaugurated the year of faith and the Silver jubilee year of the Diocese on 7th October 2012 at Sacred heart Cathedral, Shimoga. It was a rare occasion witnessed by the faithful of the Diocese.
The year of faith is thus intended to contribute to a renewed conversion to the Lord Jesus and to the rediscovery of faith, so that the members of the church will be credible and joy filled witnesses to the risen lord in the world of today-capable of leading those many people who are seeking it to the ‘door of faith’. This ‘door’ opens wide mans gaze to Jesus Christ, present among us ‘always until the end of the age.
n his homily Bishop considered Mary as the Mother of faith. She adorned Jesus as the treasure of her life, and remained obedient to the will of God till the end. Let us have the attitude of Mother Mary throughout this year of Faith. Bishop added, It is coincidence that in the year of faith we are also celebrating the Silver jubilee year of the Diocese. God has blessed us immensely in these years let us be grateful to the Almighty for the Diocese of Shimoga.
After the Sermon, there was unfurling of the Banners of the Year of Faith and the Jubilee year followed by the recitation of the Nicene Creed with the lighted candles in hands. It was meaningful celebration of the liturgy that enhanced the beauty of the day. What followed next was farewell to our beloved Bishop the entire priestly fraternity and the people of the diocese bid adieu to Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo.
A book Dhanyanjali containing the person of Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo and his achievements was released by Rev. Felix Noronha and was given to the Bishop. Rev. Fr. Duming was the Editor of Dhanyanjali. In his address Bishop thanked profusely all those who helped him in his tenure as the Bishop of Shimoga for twelve and a half years.
